The Hotel and Restaurant Industry Employment & Training Trust (“HARIETT”) is a non-profit 501(C)(5) institution and a labor-management partnership/Taft-Hartley fund that provides education and training benefits to both members of UNITE HERE! Local 5 and employers throughout the State of Hawaii. HARIETT is funded through contributions negotiated by UNITE HERE! Local 5 and paid by their signatory employers. Our primary purpose is to improve the lives of the UNITE HERE! Local 5 members through education, training and re-training by providing members with the ability to advance themselves within the Hotel & Restaurant Industry in order to improve their socioeconomic status and overall wellbeing.

Mr. James P. Hardway
|
James Hardway has over 20 years of senior managerial experience with organizations focusing on education and workforce development. He is currently the Executive Director of the Hotel and Restaurant Industry Employment & Training Trust ("HARIETT"), a non-profit institution and a labor-management partnership/Taft-Hartley fund that provides benefits to both members of UNITE HERE! Local 5 and employers throughout the State of Hawaii. HARIETT trains and upgrades the skills of several hundred of UNITE HERE! Local 5 members in the hospitality industry each year. Prior to joining the HARIETT, James served as the Executive Director of the State of Hawaii Workforce Development Council ("WDC"). The WDC is an employer-led state agency that is the principal advisor to the Governor on workforce development issues, oversees the state's job training infrastructure, develops job training programs, and manages several million dollars in federal grants for workforce development. Mr. Hardway is a graduate of the University of Hawaii-Manoa. |

Geoff Wooden has been working with HARIETT since 2015 and has been involved in education and training for over 25 years. Although born and raised in Hawaii, he lived in Japan for 10 years where he taught English, managed an English language school, and hosted a radio show. At HARIETT, over the years, he has developed dozens of programs in various subjects and established new relationships with many training providers. Currently, he is in charge of member services and onsite employer requested training. He is a certified instructor for various organizations including the American Red Cross, National Restaurant Association, TIPS and others, and also teaches Japanese as well as various soft skills, safety and compliance courses. |
